Christine Forbes

Christine qualified as a drama teacher whilst studying fashion design at West Sussex College of Design, Worthing. Fashion became her career for some twenty years working in and around London. Her design experience extended into illustration, graphics, interior design, and building refurbishment. She then ran her own restaurant in London before moving back to Sussex in 1994. Returning to the same college where she had studied fashion she took a degree in fine art and on graduation she was awarded the Antony Amies prize for painting.

She has had 2 solo exhibitions, most recently at The Capitol, Horsham. Her work has also been exhibited at the Royal Academy (Summer Exhibition), the Affordable Art Fair and various London and UK galleries.

Christine continues to work and exhibit locally whilst maintaining regular teaching at West Dean College, Chichester and in Worthing.

On a commercial level she has her own gift card range and she undertakes portraits to commission.

“Watercolour is the medium I use most but I also work in acrylics, inks and pastels.

I’m a process focussed artist so generating work is as much about lines and marks and how I make them as it is about a selected subject matter.  I call what I do liquid drawing because it’s a fusion of my Western education and my adopted philosophies from the East. I use colour but it’s secondary to the activity of drawing.”
