The Sussex Watercolour Society

Our Annual Exhibition for 2017 will be at the Oxmarket Arts Centre in Chichester, from September 11th - 24th.
There will be a "Meet the Artist/Preview and Demonstration Day" on the first Saturday, September 16th.

News for Members:-  Re SWS Exhibition

Karen Munck has produced the publicity flyers and postcards for the exhibition at Chichester Oxmarket and Sarah Mitchener has them at her house in Brighton. She will be distributing them/ sending an amount out to all SWS members during July, using the addresses on the members list. If anyone wants to collect some from Sarah, that will be very welcome!

Shirley Trevener has a good article in the August issue of Sussex Life magazine which also gives publicity for our Chichester exhibition. It is on sale now.


Sarah will be exhibiting paintings and prints during Lewes Artwave at Limetree Kitchen, 14, Station Street, Lewes,  from 19th August - 3rd September. This venue will be open Wednesday to Sunday each week.


Nick will be exhibiting his paintings, prints and Cicada Jewellery with "New Decos"at Lewes House, from Saturday August 12th - Monday August 21st. This is a Sussex Arts Collective Summer Show and part of Lewes Artwave.


Many congratulations to Susan, who has achieved her MA and showed her work at the Degree Show in Barnsley.


Alison will be exhibiting work in the Worthing Art Trail: Colonade Gallery for Worthing Churches Homeless Project.


Christine has been commissioned to paint a selection of watercolours for a business that has just had a complete building refurbishment.

Shirley`s work will be represented by Nicholas Bowlby at The Affordable Art Fair in Battersea London, from 19th-22nd October 2017.

Shirley won the Winsor & Newton/RI Award for an outstanding group of six paintings by a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours this year.      
As a result of that and in conjunction with the SWS Annual Exhibition,  she was interviewed by Duncan Hall for an article in the August issue of Sussex Life magazine (available now). She will be exhibiting her winning watercolours at the SWS Exhibition at Chichester Oxmarket Arts Centre in September.
Also, her 4th DVD will probably be available in August 2017.

The next issue of The Art of Watercolour magazine, published in early September 2017, includes a feature on women artists today,  which will address issues such as the status of women artists, the difficulty of balancing family and artistic lives, etc. Shirley is included amongst a dozen women artists.

As one of the invited "best watercolour artists from all over the world" she will be exhibiting in Masters of Watercolour 2018, in St Petersburg, Russia between 1st-28th February 2018.  Last years exhibition was the first and attended by over 15,000 visitors.


Sonya has work permanently showing at a new gallery in Eastbourne`s Enterprise Centre called At The Makery.


Sheila will be exhibiting work in Falmer Church and Village Hall during Lewes Artwave, from August 19th - September 3rd, during three weekends, August 19th/20th, 26th/27th, and September 2nd/3rd.

She also has paintings on show at the Alfriston Arts Gallery, High Street,  Alfriston BN26 5SY.
