Sarah Mitchener

'My love and appreciation of watercolour has been fast and furious and relatively recent.  Having first tried this medium around seventeen years ago I found it too prescriptive but approaching it in a completely different way only a few years ago I discovered its true versatility. Adding other water based media into my work further allows for interesting mark making and daily experimentation.

With inspiration often provided by this amazing county, which can range from something as simple as a conker to seascapes, landscapes and sometimes glimpses of city architecture, I gain as much pleasure from seeing my images manipulated and reproduced in room-sized format or small greeting- card format as I do from seeing my original paintings framed and on the wall.  I am also discovering a natural seasonal rhythm to my work which is further influenced by trips to Denmark and Spain.

Over the last year, together with private commissions and interiors projects, I have shown in Brighton and Hove Open Houses in May and December, Lewes Artwave, The Laughing Dog Gallery and the Claremont Winter Exhibition.  I was recently selected as a finalist in the Sussex Life Landscape competition.

I paint and sell from my home studio and further examples of my work and work in progress can be found on my Facebook page
