Sarah Mitchener

My love and appreciation of watercolour has been fast and furious and relatively recent.  Having first tried this medium around twenty years ago I found it too prescriptive but approaching it in a completely different way only a few years ago I discovered its true versatility. Adding other water based media into my work further allows for interesting mark making and daily experimentation.

With inspiration often provided by this amazing county, which can range from something as simple as a conker to seascapes, landscapes and sometimes glimpses of city architecture, I gain as much pleasure from seeing my images manipulated and reproduced in room-sized format or small greeting-card format as I do from seeing my original paintings framed and on the wall.  I am also discovering a natural seasonal rhythm to my work which is further influenced by trips to Denmark and Spain.

2019 has been busy.  As well as exhibiting in two venues for Artists Open Houses,Brighton Festival, I have exhibited in a four man show at Patchings Art Centre, Nottingham with Shirley Trevena, in a group show at Grey Walls Gallery, Brighton and will be exhibiting with The Sussex Watercolour Society Annual Exhibition, Lewes. In addition to this I am a finalist in the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2019 and will be showing at the Mall Galleries in September and as a touring exhibition in 2020.

I paint and sell from my home studio and further examples of my work and work in progress can be found on my Facebook and Instagram Pages.
