To me, drawing is an especially selective process, not telling the whole story.
All my work starts with a direct graphic response to what I am looking at.
Whether as a result of teaching art or by natural inclination I seem to primarily focus on the `gaps between things` [`negative spaces` in art-teach speak]  This I guess leads to a pattern across the surface often being a key preoccupation.
Although I try to choreograph the composition in advance imagining it on the paper, the dance never quite ends up as I anticipate it, maybe lack of complete foresight makes the journey more absorbing
